Right Now

The girls are all snug in their beds and all but Zoe are sound asleep while Mama works into the night on birthday things. Kaiya will be a whopping six years old tomorrow. Today she went out with my parents and she was sweet enough to invite her sisters and I to come along and share her day. So, we all went to lunch and to get her hair cut! She's been asking to have it done for weeks now. Says she doesn't like having to put it back all the time. She got a bob and bangs and looks sweet and sassy and, well, just a little more grown up. Her first pair of glasses will be here in a week or so. I got my first pair when I was six and her daddy has glasses, too, so figured it would only be a matter of time. To see her change so much, though... It nearly brought tears to my eyes today, to watch her long hair fall to the floor. Not sad, just touched, I guess.
And then we parted ways, River and I picking up craft supplies for the birthday girl and the older girls off to the movies with grandma and paw paw to see Gnomeo and Juliet. They loved it. I asked Kaiya this morning what she wanted for her birthday tomorrow and she asked if we could have popcorn like we did for Zoe's last year. I said sure, what else? She said she really wants her daddy to be there and I said of course he'll be there but isn't there anything you want for your birthday. She said she'd like to do some crafting and get some craft things. I just can't say how proud that makes me. Not only did she not ask for toys and barbies and plastic and princesses and electronics but she just wants to crafts. A girl after my own heart!
